| | TERRY SMITH nel Museo di Cà Rezzonico chiuso per restauri fornisce il perfetto esempio di quello che si potrebbe fare in questa città. La sua affascinante lettura dell'antica passione dei veneziani per il gioco delle carte e la conversazione - come rappresentati in "Marking Time", la video installazione creata per il salone del primo piano - mostra il potenziale energetico che uno sguardo nuovo può avere per un vecchio edificio con una lunga storia sulle spalle ed il futuro di museo d'arte antica in ristrutturazione.
Mostrare in un edificio come questo un progetto agile e reversibile che, benchè nato nel e per l'antico contenitore potrà essere esportato altrove (come in effetti è già stato fatto, a Roma e Città del Messico) è stata una sfida non indifferente, che ha richiesto un cambio nella mentalità di tutte le persone coinvolte nella sua realizzazione. Perchè per "Marking Time" noi abbiamo considerato l'edificio storico come "risorsa materiale" per l'artista, nella sua ricchezza di tesori d'arte, nella complessità della sua storia e dei suoi interni. Questa installazione intende aprire uno spazio pubblico, benchè provvisorio, per l'arte contemporanea in una istituzione destinata a conservare e mostrare l'antico patrimonio d'arte della città.

TERRY SMITH at the Museum of Ca' Rezzonico closed for restoration, is the perfect case-example for what could be done in this Town. The engaging reading of the Venetian attitude to gambling and chatting he draws in "Marking Time", the video installation he created for the first floor salon - shows how energetic a new view can be for an old building with a long history on his back and the future of an antique art museum under development. To show that in such a building an agile, reversible project, although "born" in and for this antique container, could be exported elsewhere (and actually has been done, in Rome and Ciudad do Mexico) has been a non indifferent task, which has needed a turn in mentality of all the people involved in its realization.
For "Marking Time", we have considered the historical building as a "material resource" for the artist, given its trove of art treasures, its complex history and interiors. This installation also meant to open a public space, although provisional, for contemporary arts in an institution destined to show and preserve the old heritage.
